Diabetes Can be Prevented by Ayurveda Treatment

What is diabetes?

Diabetes is considered to be a group of metabolic disorder featured by high level blood sugar or hyperglycemia. It takes place due to disordering insulin secretion in the pancreas. Type 1 and type 2 diabetes are classified. Insulin dependent or non dependent are another type of classification. Generally diabetes is the output of a derailed metabolism of the body. 

According to modern medicine and ayurveda it is the disorder of the digestive system. According to the common theory, the carbo hydrate breaks down to glucose in the digestive tract and enters the blood stream. Glucose is the source of energy. The body observes glucose from the blood with the help of insulin. The insulin acts like a master key that opens passage for the glucose to get absorbed by the body. The insulin is secreted from the beta cells of the pancreas. Lack of insulin in the blood circulation prevents absorption of glucose by the body. That enhances the blood glucose level. This is called hyperglycemia or high blood sugar or diabetes.
In hyperglycemia the glucose is stored in the blood circulation instead of getting absorbed by the cells. Due to low concentration of glucose inside the cells there is low concentration of energy too. That makes the patients physically weak. In a healthy person when somebody takes food the pancreas gets triggered to secret insulin. That insulin helps introducing blood glucose into the human body cell. It gives a good health and good energy. 

Ayurveda concept of diabetes

According to ayurveda, diabetes or Madhumeha comes under the group of prameha. All the three doshes Vata, Pitta and kapha are involved in the pathogenesis of prameha. According to ayurveda diabetes takes place due to very low density kapha and meda dhatu. It may be compared with very low density lipid (VLDL). The type one diabetes can be compared with madhumeha with dhatu ksya. Type two diabetes can be compared with abarana janya madhumeha.

Ayurveda says that diabetes is caused due to high calorie diet like sweets, new rice, wine, ghee, no work, day sleep, stress etc.

Ayurveda suggests some guidelines that will helps preventing ayurveda even following that guideline will help preventing complication of diabetes and keeping a diabetes patient physically and mentally fit.

Follow the Dina Charya

Dina charya teaches us to get up early in the morning after the food taken in the previous evening gets digested that means the last dinner should have been very light so that it could get digested till the morning.


After getting up from bed somebody should go for eye flushing with water, defecation, brushing the teeth, ayurveda oil massage, exercise, ayurvedic bath followed by a breakfast depending upon the season. 

Ayurveda suggests professions and professional ethics, sociability, humanity are the different way to keep mind blissful. A blissful mind secrets happy hormone that helps pancreas secret insulin in a controlled way. 

Three times food

Three times food in day is good to lead a domestic life. In Ayurveda it is told that all the diseases take place due to disturbance in the digestive system. The stomach gets upset if it is disturbed frequently. The stomach gets disturbed if we take food or drink (excluding natural water) frequently. Whenever a food or drink enters the digestive system, the pancreas gets triggered to secret insulin. The frequent trigger to the pancreas leads to its dysfunction that leads to non secretion of insulin. That lack of insulin in the blood leads to diabetes that is why food, three times a day, everyday at the same time can keep diabetes away.

Active round the day


A healthy person or a diabetes patient must maintain an active life style round the day. It is observed, many people work hard in the park or the gym during the morning. After that either they sit long on a chair or lay on the bed during the day time. Here the  benefits for diabetes management is very much limited. An active life style on regular basis will give a clear idea about the calorie input and output ratio. It makes easy for the patient and doctor to fix a dose of food and medicine. 

A Balanced Dish

Old boiled rice, husk flour from old wheat in a very little amount will be helpful in a diet. The rest of the diet should be compensated with roughage and fibre and a little bit vegetable protein. Dalma is a very popular dish in Odisha, the east coast of India. It contains a little bit green gram, water, Salt, some digestive spice and numbers of green vegetables. I believe this is the best dish in the world for a diabetes patient. 

Early to Bed


After we sleep down the metabolism inside the body gets slow down. That creates a number of metabolism disorder especially diabetes mellitus or hyperglycemia or high blood sugar. That is why the dinner should be around 7 p.m followed by a sleep after two hours.

Rainy Season and Life Style (Varsha Ritu Charya)


Normally in India Rainy season comes in between the months of June to September. The first two months or less are considered to be Prabrut Kala (Pre monsoon). The second two months or more are considered to be Brut or Rainy season.

As usual the human-being has to respond positively to the change of seasons with his/ her own life style. The rainy season comes after a long hot and hectic summer season that left everything dry and dust. Simultaneously there is a downfall in the Agni (appetite and digestion power). The sudden onset of rain and the seasonal effect create a toxic atmosphere inside and outside the body. Ultimately that brings in diseases like flue, diarrhoea, fever, throat infection, respiratory infection, joint disease etc.

Ayurveda suggests guided food habit and life style during rainy season. This is called Varsha ritu Charya.

1. As a preventive major for Vata dosha Asthapan Basti may be programmed by an Ayurvedic doctor.
2. The advisable food style is as follows:-
- Old rice
- Mutton soup added with ghee/ oil and ginger powder.
- Green gram soup.
- Old honey.
- Old wine prepared from grapes.
- Food cooked with herbal decoction of Sauvarchal Lavana, Pippali, Pippali Moola, Chavya, Chitrak,   Sunthi.
- On a heavy rainy day dry food with salt and sour taste and added with ghee/ oil is advised.
- Light food is a mandatory.

3. Living inside dry room, avoiding heavy rain is advised.

4. Please avoid river water, day sleep, heavy exercise and intake of Sattu          (powder of peas) with water.

The Benefit of eating Garlic

Lashuna : Garlic : Allium Sativum

Lashuna in Sanskrit is called garlic in English. Botanista say that is Allium sativum. 

According to Ayurveda this is Tikshna i.e.
very hot and sharp. Its Rasa (taste) and Vipaka (the final taste after the digestion is over) is Katu (Pungent). It is rather a sara (laxative) than a constipative. Due to its tikshna, katu and sara properties, this is very good for heart. This is snigdha (oily) and good for the health of the hair. This is a very good appetizer and digestive. As a very good quality aphrodisiac it has its own identity. It helps in fractured bone calcification. It provides youth full spirit and strength. 

This noble drug is highly praised by all the ancient scientists of Ayurveda, Even Maharshi Kashyap has written a special chapter only on Lashuna.

This is indicated in the management of skin disease, piles treatment, abdominal disorder, urino-genital disorder, worm, joint and neuro diseases, hiccough, running nose, asthma, cough etc.

It is a very good general Geriatric tonic or Rasayana.

Discussion:

Due to its tikshna, ushma, sara quality and Katu rasa n Vipaka, this is the first drug of choice of the cardiologists. It manages the dyslipidemia or hyperlipidemia. That is why this is Hridya or good for heart.

This is deepaniya (appetizer), Pachaniya (digestive), but guru (heavy) and snigdh (oily). Deepana, Pachana and Tikshna guna (quality) no where stops the process of metabolism and attains the ultimate final stage of metabolism (dhatu Poshana). The out put of Sukra Dhatu is facilitated by the presence of Snigdha and guru guna, because sukra is snigdha. That is why Lashuna is Vrishya (Aphrodisiac).

Ayurveda and Bath



Bath is a regular practice everywhere in the world.
Some people take it in the morning, some in the
evening. Some take hot water bath, some cold. Now a days herbal bath or Ayurvedic bath is very popular among people. Ayurveda suggests some guidelines for bath.
What is the benefit of bath?
Ayurveda: Dipanam vrishyam ayushyam snanam urjabalapradam.
                     Kandu mala shrama sweda tandra trut daha pashmajit..
Bath is very useful in enhancing appetite and digestion. It is anti aging and adds to life. It gives immense energy and inspiration. It removes and prevents itching and the scales of body. It relieves the tiredness, drowsiness, thirst, burning sensation etc. Bath gives a sense of holiness in body and mind.
How to bath with hot water?
Ayurveda: Ushmabuna adhah kayasya parisheko balabahah.
      Tena eba tu Uttamangasya Balahrut kasha chkshusha..
A hot water bath below the shoulder is good for health and boosts the physical energy. Hot water bath on head weakens the strength, vision power and causes hair loss.
Who is not fit to take bath?
Ayurveda: Snanam Ardita netraasya karna roga atisareshu.
     Adhmana Peenasa ajeerna bhuktabatsu cha garhitam..
Somebody suffering from diseases of nose, eye, ear, diarrhea, abdominal disorder, cold, rhinitis, indigestion should not take bath. Immediately after taking food bath should be avoided.

Ayurveda and Exercise

 
Introduction: The life is nothing but a management of energy bank. Food is taken, gets digested and physical and mental labour is discharged. In other words energy is consumed, energy is metabolized, energy is discharged. A complete bank.
 
                                                          So energy discharge is an essential part
of life. The daily routine job in our life does never cover the need of all the muscular exercise. That is why there is need of regular Physical Exercise.
 
Ayurveda suggests  some guide lines for exercise.
 
The exercise should be practiced after an Ayurvedic oil massage.
 
What is the benefits of Physical Exercise?
 
Ayurveda: Laghavam karma-samarthyam, deeptognir-medasah kshya,
                  Vibhakta Ghana-gatratvam, vyayamat upajayate..
 
Exercise brings lightness, ability to work, good appetite to body. It helps in liquification of unnecessary fat and toning and shaping the muscles. It gives a solidity to body.

Who is not eligible for exercise?
 
Ayurveda: Vata Pittamayi Balo briddho ajinni cha tam tyajet.
 
Young child, old man, patient suffering from Vata and Pitta disease and indigestion should not practice exercise.
 
Who is eligible? What is the limit of exercise? What is favourable season?
 
Ayurveda: Ardha shaktya nishebyastu balibhih snigdha bhojibhih.
                  Sheeta kale Basnte cha mandameba tatto anyada..
 
A strong person taking food mixed with fat is eligible for exercise, amounting equal to half of his own energy during the period of winter and spring seasons. During the other four seasons he should practice even less exercise.
 
What should be done after Exercise?
 
Ayurveda: Tam krutwanusukham deham mardayetcha samantatah.
 
After exercise the body should be massaged with moderate pressure without causing any harm to the skin, muscles etc.
 
What is the hazards of excessive Exercise?
 
Ayurveda: Trishna kshaya pratamakoraktapittam shramah klamah.
                  Atibyamatah kaso jwarachhardischa jayate..
 
Excessive exercise may cause dryness of mouth, pulmonary tuberculosis, bronchial asthma, purpura, tiredness, fatigue syndrome, cough, fever, vomit etc.
 
Exercise should be performed after and with thorough medical supervision.

Best Ayurvedic treatment. It is possible.
 
The seers of Ayurveda have described four factors behind the success of a best Ayurveda treatment which comprise of four qualities each.
 
They are Vaidya (The doctor), Dravya (The medicine), Upasthata (The nurse) and Rogi (The patient). Each of them are comprised of four qualities which combinedly make a treatment perfect.
 
Doctor: He should be skilled and holistic. He should have moved deep into the texts like a holy trip and bath in a religious place. He should have witnessed sufficient practical experience.
 
Medicine: The medicine should be very much potential with its own properties. It should have been prepared with multiple forms like tablet, syrup, powder, tincture etc. The medicine should be of broad spectrum and of multi-dimensional activity.
 
Nurse (Attendant): The first criteria of being a perfect nurse is belongingness towards the patient and the doctor. Holistic practice is a USP of the nurse as a good health worker. The nurse should be an intelligent one.
 
Patient: Patient should be financially sound, obedient to the doctor, informative and tolerant. He should have the mental strength to tolerate the taste of the medicine or the pain of the treatment.

How does a disease take place?

How does a disease take place?
 
According to basic principle of Ayurveda, every incident that takes place is the ultimate consequence of a reason behind it. So as any disease is the ultimate consequence of some sort of reasons behind it. The complete occurrence of a disease is a continuous journey of a pathogenesis that starts from the accumulation of reasons and ends at the onset of the disease.
 
The onset of the journey takes place at the excessive/ less/ wrong practice of time, objective of life and the physical and mental activity. This practice helps accumulation of the causative factors of the disease.
It is a normal tendency, gathering of same elements at one place for a longer time exaggerates the nature and practice of that element. Expansion of the elements in area and activity is another normal tendency. After expansion the elevated confidence instigates to invade and settle in a new place. That happens in case of the accumulated, exaggerated and expanded toxic elements of the body. Then the disease shows the presuming signs and symptoms of some unseen diseases. With time it displays the cardinal symptoms of a disease along with the prevalence of that's variety. (e.g.: Arthritis:- Rheumatoid/ Gouty/ Osteo/ Tubercular etc)
 
Why, this is important?
 
Because, with the information mentioned above, we understand that there are five or six steps where we can prevent the disease before it takes place.
